| I am a songwriter, author, activist & educator. I enjoy the sound of sexy music and the company of beautiful women. I hold Masters Degrees in Education and Theology, and spend what little spare time I have playing one of my Ten Black Guitars for hours in dark sexy saloons! I was the founder and leader of the all-Black Northern California rock bands "The Wanted" and "Othello's Revenge" and gained regional celebrity playing clubs on the West Coast. In 1991, I performed on both the Lollapalooza and Gathering of the Tribes festival tours, and was featured in a MTV 30-minute News Special entitled "Racism: Points of View", which ran from 1991-1992. I continued performing nationally and internationally, and in 2002 was nominated for a JPF Songwriter Award, and signed a licensing deal with Bunim-Murray to provide music for MTV shows like THE REAL WORLD and ROAD RULES. In 2003 I was featured in an exhibit at the National Broadcast Museum, chronicling the importance of my MTV special and my views on racism in the music industry. In 2004, I decided an honest history of Black rockers needed to be written, so I wrote THE SOUL OF ROCK 'N ROLL: A History of African Americans in Rock Music. Still today, it's the only book of its kind, and has received great international acclaim. Did I mention that I love women? Peace & Love - J. Othello |
